Product Description

Approx 10 Seeds - Coriander Seeds Coriander 'Eureka', also commonly referred to as cilantro, Chinese parsley, or Dhania, is a popular herb appreciated for its fragrant, citrusy leaves and its seeds which are used as a spice. Known scientifically as Coriandrum sativum, this versatile plant is part of the Apiaceae family. The 'Eureka' variety is celebrated for its bolt-resistant qualities, making it a preferred choice among gardeners and culinary enthusiasts seeking a longer harvest period. Growing Coriander 'Eureka' in Australia Care Guide Climate and Timing Coriander 'Eureka' grows best in Australia during the cooler months, as it tends to bolt to seed in hot weather. For most regions, planting in early autumn or late winter will yield the best results. In tropical and subtropical regions, it can be grown throughout the winter. Position Choose a location that receives morning sun and partial afternoon shade, especially in hotter regions. This will help to keep the soil cool and extend the leafy growth period of the plant. Soil Coriander prefers well-drained, fertile soil with a pH between 6.2 and 6.8. Enrich the planting site with well-rotted compost or manure before sowing seeds or planting seedlings. Sowing and Planting Sow seeds directly into the prepared bed or start them in pots. Seeds should be planted at a depth of about 6 mm. Coriander seeds are unique in that each seed is actually a fruit containing two seeds, so you might see two seedlings emerging from one seed. Space plants or thin seedlings to about 20-30 cm apart to allow for adequate air circulation. Watering Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Coriander has a long taproot and does best with deep, infrequent watering rather than frequent shallow waterings. Feeding A balanced, slow-release fertilizer applied at planting will support growth. Alternatively, liquid seaweed or a similar organic product can be used throughout the season to provide nutrients. Harvesting Leaves can be harvested as soon as they are big enough to use—usually within 4-6 weeks from sowing. Pick leaves regularly to encourage more growth. If you're after coriander seeds, wait until the plants have bolted and the seed heads have dried on the plant before harvesting. Pests and Diseases Coriander is relatively hardy but can sometimes fall prey to fungal diseases if conditions are too wet. Ensure good air circulation and avoid overhead watering to minimize risk. Aphids and whiteflies can also be attracted to coriander; these can be managed with organic insecticidal soaps or neem oil.
