Bird's Nest Fern - Crow's Nest Fern - Asplenium Nidus

Birds Nest Fern, scientifically known as Asplenium nidus, is an attractive fern native to Southeast Asia. It's known by several alternative names including Crow's Nest Fern, Tree Nest Fern, or simply Nest Fern. In Australia, this plant is a popular houseplant because of its lush and wavy leaves that form a circular pattern resembling a bird's nest.  Birds Nest Ferns thrive in warm, humid conditions. Therefore, in Australia, the best location for these plants is in a well-lit, shaded position away from direct sunlight which could cause the fronds to become pale and bleached. Regular misting with filtered or distilled water is recommended to mimic the plant's natural habitat.  For best growth, keep the plant in a potting mix with excellent drainage. It's also crucial to maintain an optimum temperature between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius, making it ideal for Australia's temperate conditions. Fertilization with a slow-release granular fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer) can enhance its lush growth.  When it comes to watering, it's best to keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged. The plant's distinctive nest-like centre must be kept free of water to prevent the risk of fungal diseases.  Regularly wipe the leaves to remove dust for better light absorption, but avoid using leaf shine products as they can damage the fern’s fronds.
